The Assam region lies along the Brahmaputra River in northeastern India, where hot, humid temperatures and heavy rainfall create ideal growing conditions for bold black teas. The Harmutty Estate, founded in the 1870s, is located in the Lakhimpur district near the Dikrong River and bordering the forests of Arunachal Pradesh. One of Assam’s oldest gardens, Harmutty is known for producing well-crafted orthodox teas with consistent quality and classic character.

Tippy is a tea term used when describing unopened leaf buds (Pekoe tips) that appear as golden flecks in the dry leaf. These tips contribute smoothness and natural sweetness to the brewed tea. Malty describes a flavor reminiscent of germinating grains such as barley, corn, or oat, commonly found in Assam teas. This tea is graded SFTGFOP1, meaning Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe One. This grade indicates very fine, carefully worked full leaves with a high proportion of golden tips. Compared to broken leaf grades such as BOP or FBOP, SFTGFOP1 teas are smoother and more refined, producing a cleaner, more balanced cup.
