Matcha is a finely milled Japanese green tea powder made from shade-grown tencha leaves. Unlike traditional steeped teas, matcha involves consuming the entire leaf, offering a concentrated source of antioxidants and nutrients. Known for its vibrant green color and signature umami flavor, matcha is both an ancient tea and a modern favorite.
We offer two organic matcha grades, both sourced from Shizuoka, Japan and stone-ground at origin:
Ceremonial Matcha is made from the first harvest of tender spring leaves, hand-picked and slowly ground into a superfine powder. The result is a smooth, complex matcha with sweet-savory notes and a crisp finish. Ideal for traditional preparation with water alone or in a premium latte. Available in 29g and 80g tins. One serving is ½ teaspoon, yielding a 2 to 4 oz whisked cup.
Culinary Matcha is harvested later in the season for a bolder, more robust flavor. While still smooth and vegetal, this matcha has a more pronounced grassy character that holds up well when mixed with milk or added to recipes. Perfect for matcha lattes, lemonades, smoothies, and baking. Available in 100g and 227g bags. One serving is 1 teaspoon, making a 4 to 8 oz cup.
