Benifuuki Wakoucha Organic
Tasting Notes: fig, toasted grain, ripe plum, honey
Description: A deliciously smooth small-batch Japanese black tea from Kagoshima, made from the Benifuuki cultivar, a tea variety developed in Japan specifically for black tea production.
Wakoucha is Japan’s term for black tea, crafted using traditional oxidation methods and local cultivars. Still relatively rare, these teas are known for their natural sweetness and smooth, low-astringency profile.
Benifuuki Wakoucha brews to a reddish copper hue with layered notes of fig, toasted grain, and honey molasses. The tea deepens into rich plum and dark honey, with a rounded mouthfeel and a warming finish. Fuller-bodied than most Japanese teas, this harvest shows how black tea from Japan can offer richness without harshness.
Grown organically in the volcanic soils of southern Japan, this is a pure, unscented expression of Japan’s evolving black tea tradition.
Ingredients: organic Japanese black tea (wakoucha) from the Benifuuki cultivar grown in Kagoshima, Japan
