This selection is a Dianhong (or Dian Hong) which is a high-grade black tea from China's Yunnan province, known for its golden buds and rich, malty, and often fruity, honey, and chocolatey flavor profile with low astringency.
The taste of this tea is deliciously malty and smooth with lingering sweet notes of cocoa, honey, and brown sugar layered with elements of dark chocolate, dried fruits, nuts, and a slight hint of warm spice.
This tea has a gentle sweet and comforting feeling, with an absence of astringency, which results in a velvety mouthfeel.
Premium Yunnan Gold Buds or Dian Hong teas are easily identified by its abundance of soft golden tips and its savory taste profile. Produced from a tea bud during the last 10 days of the plant's growth. After harvesting, the buds are painstakingly and meticulously sorted to keep only the most perfect leaves. This results in an exceptionally high-grade tea. Due the handcrafted artisan method of withering and oxidizing these premium tea leaves, the beautiful buds turn gold rather than black. The result of these labor-intensive processes is a tea that is unmistakably smooth and complex.
