Matcha strainers are used to sift the matcha and remove the clumps in the matcha powder before consumption. Removing the clumps in matcha powder before whisking is very important because sifted matcha will whisk into a soft and frothy consistency. Unsifted matcha will be thicker with less froth and may have a grainy and clumpy texture.
