Big Red Robe (Da Hong Pao)
Tasting Notes: honey, toast, apricot, cinnamon
Description: Big Red Robe is one of the classic rock oolong teas of the Wuyi mountains of Fujian province China. The Wuyi tea region is world-famous for their dark oolong teas.
Rock oolong teas are crafted into a twisted leaf style and are grown in mineral-rich sediment. The defining features of this type of oolong tea are the taste of minerality and roasted spice notes with hints of honey sweetness.
These flavors are crafted by oxidizing and baking the tea leaves into long, dark, twisted tea leaves. This oxidizing and baking creates an oolong tea with flavors of toast, cinnamon spices, chocolate, citrus, and honey. The underlying mineral notes of the tea come from the rocky mineral-rich soil in the Wuyi Mountains.
Ingredients: oolong tea from the Wuyi Mountains of China
Steep Directions: steep 1-2 heaping teaspoon of tea per 8 oz below boiling water, 195°F, for 3-4 minutes
