Rooibos, also known as the red-bush plant and pronounced roy-bus, is grown solely in South Africa. This medicinal plant is naturally no caffeine and known for its many health benefits. It is high in antioxidants and vitamin C and has been studied for its anti-inflammatory properties, support of heart health, balanced blood sugar, and improved digestion.
The rooibos plant can be crafted into two styles: red rooibos and green rooibos. To produce green rooibos, the leaves are not oxidized, meaning no heat is applied, resulting in a lighter, more delicate tea with fresh, herbaceous notes. To produce red rooibos, the leaves are fully oxidized and roasted, creating a smooth, rounded flavor with naturally sweet, nutty, and woodsy tones.
Honeybush, a close South African relative of rooibos, is fuller-bodied and richer in flavor with warm honey notes and a deeper finish. Like rooibos, it is naturally no caffeine and abundant in antioxidants and vitamin C, making it a soothing and nourishing choice for any time of day.
