Traditional Ti Kwan Yin

  • 1200

Tasting Notes: roasted nuts, toffee, chestnut, orchid

Description:  Ti Kwan Yin (also spelled as Ti Kuan Yin or Tieguanyin) loosely translates to Iron Goddess of Mercy. This is a roasted or dark Ti Kwan Yin and we also offer a green style Ti Kwan Yin in our catalog. We call this roasted version of this classic tea - Traditional Ti Kwan Yin.

Ti Kwan Yin oolongs that are roasted are crafted by baking and roasting the tea leaves to create a robust oolong tea with notes of toffee and chestnut. In each sip you will find lingering subtle undertones of dried fruit, cinnamon, and orchid. Pleasant minerality and soft honey notes are at the finish.

This Traditional Ti Kwan Yin is sourced from Fujian province China. It is crafted in the roasted traditional style with a longer oxidation period than the newer style Ti Kwan Yin oolong teas such as our Ti Kwan Yin Monkey Picked. The new production style Ti Kwan Yin oolongs tend to be more like a green tea with a lighter body and buttery vegetal notes. In comparison, this Traditional Ti Kwan Yin oolong teas is darker with a fuller body due to the baking and roasting process.

We recommend both the traditional roasted and modern green production techniques of Ti Kwan Yin. We would like to note that neither is better or more correct. Both are exquisite handcrafted teas that deserve a spot on your tea shelf.
