Kukicha Organic

Tasting Notes: leafy greens, cucumber, grass

Description: A beautiful tea to gaze at due to its unmistakable brilliant shade of vibrant green and yellow. A satisfying tea that works wonderfully well both iced and hot.

Kukicha is naturally sweeter than other Japanese green teas. This tea has succulent notes of cut grass, cucumber, fresh pressed green juice, and kale. A mellow tea that is low in both astringency and caffeine. In each sip, you'll find lingering grassy notes with a touch of chestnut.

Kukicha, also known as Twig Tea, is made from the stems of tea leaves. Our premium kukicha tea is made from the stems of premium sencha. Other versions of kukicha use a lower grade of stems from bancha tea leaves, and therefore, are much less vibrant and flavorful.

Kukicha is a perfect example of the Japanese art of tea. No part of the tea harvest is wasted - both leaves and stems are used to craft beautiful tasting teas. To create kukicha, the tea leaf stems are accumulated during the leaf sorting process while making sencha green tea. During the sorting of sencha, the discarded tea leaf stems, that are not used for sencha, are used to make kukicha. The use of these stems, in lieu of tea leaves, makes kukicha a vibrant green tea that has ultra green grassy notes.
