Chai has a rich history in India, where tea is much more than a beverage. It is part of everyday life, enjoyed at home, shared with guests, and served by chaiwallahs (tea vendors) at markets, street stalls, and railway stations throughout the country.
In Hindi, the word Chai, चाय, simply translates to tea. In India, spiced chai is traditionally prepared with black tea, aromatic spices, milk, and sugar. Recipes vary from family to family, with each household having its own favorite combination of spices and methods of preparation.
Enjoy this Decaf Chai straight up, with a little honey, or prepared with milk and sugar for a traditional Indian-style chai. It's also delicious iced!
Our decaf teas are created using the CO2 decaffeination process. The advantage of this technique is that no chemical solvents are used to remove the caffeine. In this manner of decaffeination, naturally occurring CO2 is applied to the tea leaf in a circulation process which carefully uses high pressure and temperature to extract the caffeine. A very slight residue of caffeine will remain in the tea leaf, which is why we call them decaf teas rather than no caffeine teas. There will be a slight change in the character and flavor of the tea due to the decaffeination process, but the end result is an uncompromising cup of tea with no chemical overtones.
Please note: Decaffeinated black tea still contains a very small amount of naturally occurring caffeine. For those who prefer naturally caffeine-free teas, we offer a large selection of herbal teas, rooibos teas, honeybush teas, and fruit tisanes.
